It's an extremely informal fly-in. I plan on going, unless the forecast is for gale force winds or higher. I have a loaner gliders in good shape if anyone is interested, and does not want to lug a wing.
Falcon 1 195
Falcon 3 195
Freedom 170
Ultrasport 147
U2 160Temps can be in the 70s or 30s depending on the year. Cheap flights can be had on relatively short notice in late winter, and the airport in on my way.

Quote from tom.galvin on December 22, 2021, 9:39 pmIt is in the middle of nowhere. People look at the long range forecast for that weekend, and decide if they are going to go. It's public land with no specific regulation for flying. Most pilots are from Texas and New Mexico, but Colorado and Arizona pilots are usually well represented too. It can be half a dozen die hard pilots hoping the forecast for blown-out is wrong, or over a hundred camped out and flying all weekend. 20 mile out and backs are common when it's on. It has the overwhelming scale of Villa Grove. Talk to Bilsky about it too. He was there about a decade ago.

Fares out of NYC airports to ABQ are $300+ if you can do a Thursday-Tuesday. I have both Friday and Monday off so I can pickup and drop off at ABQ. I have gliders to spare so just bring a harness.
It is hang gliding, so you pay your money and take your chances.
