Pilot Requirements

All pilots must sign a waiver and pay flight park fees with Ellenville Flight Park. For waiver and additional information, please see https://ellenvilleflightpark.com/waiver/.

Ellenville is a H3/P4 site.

Launching

The primary flying site of HVFF is located in Ellenville, New York, commonly referred to as “Ellenville.” This site is suitable for ridge soaring, finding thermals and XC activities for advanced pilots, on days with winds from the northwest or west. It is primarily considered flyable in the later afternoon hours. Road to the main launch site can be found off of Route 52 close to the crest of the road overlooking the valley. The launches on the main site face northwest, west, and north.

There is a road launch ramp on one of the Route 52 overlooks below the main launch. This alternative launch is typically used when the main launch is inaccessible by motor vehicles (winter flying).

There is also a wooden ramp on the ‘north knob’ (north of the main launch described here).

Landing

The main landing field is adjacent to Hang Glider Road on the south side of the road. Landing in the agricultural field to the south of the LZ and to the north of Hang Glider Road is forbidden.

The landing area can be very challenging, even dangerous, during mid-day conditions, so this site is considered to be an afternoon site. Early morning flights are possible when the plan is to land before conditions become challenging in the LZ.
