Treasury: $1228, better than normal for this year
USHPA report: new vote got Paul re-elected, but now is the regional director of 16 states. Tiki Mashy back on board. 8 directors voted in, 2 more to be elected to stabilize at the new reduced number. Wilhad is worried about new glider shop owners having problems to join at new expenses. Paul thinks the majority of the board is interested in making being an instructor easier, though improving the RRG will take the better part of a year if possible. PASA should become absorbed into the RRG which should help.
Question about observer system: not considered broken so for now should not be changed.
501.3.c filing: Bobo has contacted attorney in Albany, so we now have the final paperwork to get the nonprofit status. $1300 filing fee. (have to hope we get enough donations to cover that – still accepting at paypal on the website!). Ron points out that there’s a maximum balance, etc. Ross Wisdom from FFF will help out with advising the management: When USHPA had too much money they formed the FFF!
Website: Much less activity on new forum. May be because you can’t reply to emails. Not sure if there’s a solution. Perhaps move forum link right to top of the webpage. But facebook seems to have taken over the role of the forum for flying activities, the forum for club business. Make connection to facebook from the website? Also paste link to forum stories on facebook. Might set up an email group for those who fall through all these cracks.
Logo: Jane has digitized the logo, now up on website. Can be used for apparel and other merchandise. Will be working on an online store.
Tree Landings:
October 3 – don’t have Cory here so won’t talk about what led to it. The extraction was notable because it was in a pine tree, nose up. Couldn’t see because of leaves. Nearly a dozen people were there, a pulley was already up and were ready to let him down by the time Wayne arrived. Not a situation where he could climb up on contral bar, had to tie a strap to stand on to release weight from the hang strap. Headlights were important. Too thin to climb, so face timed to talk him through, did it with Rob as well. But before wayne arrived they hadn’t put extra tie-ins on him, so the extra force began to break branches. Also needed some type of belay.
October 10 – Rob joined to talk about what put him in the tree. He was expecting a sled, but got nailed by massive sink that he couldn’t get out of (Paul showed a photo from teh day with bands of lenticular clouds, indicating wave). Sink briefly stopped so he resumed diagonal towards LZ, then got hit by sink again and had no options. But the rescue crew that showed up made him feel comfortable. Rob had dental floss, which saved him. May put together a glider extraction clinic to get the two gliders out. Wayne may even create an educational video.
