ROAD TRIP Hyner Labor Day
Quote from Brian Vant-Hull on August 25, 2020, 4:45 pmSo Hyner has a new LZ and camping area, provided to us on state lands.
Hyner itself is launchable for any winds with a west component. And the main launch is steep, long, and open enough that even if blowing lightly over the back you can afford to wait for a thermal to kill the backdraft and get off safely. And then there's the cloud dives...
If truly over the back then it's perfect for Jack's, a knife-think ridge with incredible soaring potential about 2 hours away.
For camping we have a choice of a wide open field or a forested patch which has plenty of nooks and crannies in it that will get you in the shade, though you may want to do a little light clearing. A bit more clearing opens up the whole back arbor.
We camp with easy access to the river, with the campground hot showers just up the road. We'll have a portapot or two on site. Bring your own water and light food. Local restaurants are open for half capacity. Cheap motels are also in the area (check the website).
Directions and waivers can be found on the website www.hynerclub.com. $30 monthly membership. It's about a 4 hour drive from Ellenville, so plan to spend a couple nights - we love new faces and you'll probably find a beer in your hands before you even dig out your own.

Coming from NY on 120, look to your left after you cross the bridge over the Susquehanna River. Instead of turning right to Hyner Run Rd (which goes to launch), make a left to Hyner River Rd. You'll go across the railroad tracks.

Quote from Brian Vant-Hull on September 2, 2020, 8:36 amYes, that's correct, and it's the directions on the website. In that bend in 120 you see (that picture's a view from launch) you see a patch of green with RR tracks going through it. The LZ is to the left of those tracks, and the camping area is between that and the river. We only get 1 train per day.
You can put 231 Hyner River Road, Hyner PA in any mapping software (it will change it to North Bend), but it might make you turn into a patch of trees. When you get close, look for the gravel road.
EDIT: just looked at that google map link posted. That's it, and you can see an open field to the left of the gravel road as you come in, and a forested field to the right. Both are camping. LZ is at the end of the gravel road, with a little parking lot.

Tim just let me know he's arriving friday night. Ramano's arriving saturday morning, (unless I talk him into arriving late friday night).

Quote from skeetzoid on September 7, 2020, 1:44 pmThank you Brian for inviting us to the Hyner Labor Day Fly-in! This was a very memorable summer weekend for us (Ricardo, Kim, Tim and Romano).
Question: Why is it that when I click on the first Google search result for Hyner Club events (click on the web page titled "Events Calendar - Hyner Club") it redirects to an online pharmacy for boner pills?
(Do a Google search using these terms: "Hyner Club events" and click on the first search result "Events | The Hyner Club").
Somehow this string gets appended and affects the search result: 69i57.6811j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
I get this strange redirect behavior on both Chrome for desktop and mobile, and also on Firefox desktop (but curiously not Firefox mobile).

Quote from Michael Strother on September 7, 2020, 2:38 pmI'd love to hear the Hyner recap. We had great flying weather at Ellenville Friday & Saturday. I heard from the Connecticut crew that flying at Tanner-Hiller yesterday was great as well (multiple pilots flying for hours at cloudbase, above 5K), plus one chute deployment that ended well.
