Altamont 9/20

Page 1 of 2Next

I'm contemplating going to Altamont tomorrow morning. Never been there before, anyone else game?

Uts might be a possibility tomorrow, also for Monday.

Hi, Mike,

Do you know if there is site information for Altamont posted anywhere? The USHPA website apparently doesn't have that kind of information. I thought they did at one time...

Barry

Never even heard of it.  Where is it?

(I seem to be having cookie problems.  I used to be able to stay logged in for days; now I have to log in each time).

It's a low-key site.

It's a sloped cliff launch. The LZ is pretty tight, and there is a recommended approach pattern.

Not super-high (like Uts) but super-pretty, that's what I keep hearing.

Here's a flight by Al last year:

Pilots are meeting at the Brandle Rd LZ 9:30-10:00.

Ramano's flight was at Sacramento, not Altamonte.  Altamonte looks nice.

Yes, I have never been to Altamont NY.  I'd like to visit Altamont next time you guys plan to fly there.

Sacramento PA is ALSO nice.  It's got this long ridge that stretches like forever (see IGC of these pilots doing awesome flights on that ridge):

I hit the jackpot with Altamont today. Caught a thermal on the ridge south of launch, once I got up I was cloud hopping all afternoon. Eventually got to 7250 / cloud base. Great views of NY, MA & CT. LZ is small but very doable; no major problems with the landing.

So what wind direction works and what's the protocol for flying there?   Who's the contact?

Direction is NE. Steve Draisey is the person you want to contact. For more info please contact me privately.
