HVFF Meeting Minutes – March 2019

Hudson Valley Free Flyers Meeting
March 23, White Wolf

Treasury – $ 1083.06

Old Business: same as this meeting, but progress made.

Awards categories selected by Paul Voight and Greg Black:

  • HG XC, PG XC, kingpost HG XC, Rookie of the Year, Exceptional Service
  • Golden Hammer dropped. Club’s full of snowflakes.

USHPA meeting review (Paul Voight)

  • in Golden Co, supposed to be last of the old 25 member meetings, But due to technicality having to do with incomplete facts listed on ballot, the vote must be completely redone. 6000 people did not vote, lost by 400 votes.
  • So we have a second chance to defeat it.
  • Split on voting East/West More regions voted against, but not the voters.
  • Long discussion of Paul’s problems with the new plan for the USHPA board.

New Events 2019

  • Parachute party April 27 at Greg’s Shop. This will be merged with the meeting. Pot-luck as always. We’ll get the agenda out as soon as possible.
  • Hyner Memorial day weekend, having a big membership drive, come up!
  • Kitty Hawk Spectacular in May before Memorial day. Week long event. Longest running HG event in the nation.

Road Work
Jimmy and Kenny did evaluation:

  • gate area needs gravel
  • culvert needs leaves raked. 3 leave blowers would be good.
  • diverters needed to be scraped, tamped back down
  • load of material on top to use, need wheel barrows, dirt rakes, pickaxes
  • main catch basin needs to be cleaned out.
  • second rise at turnaround needs filling.
  • Ice dam area is in good shape
  • worst area is just before west launch – filled with water. Dig some drainage ditches.
  • may expand parking area with any material left
  • wind sock is tattered, may be moved down by wind talker. wind talker can maybe be fixed.

North Knob Launch (Greg’s launch)

  • doing some work, maybe in June
  • not as much work needed as tony’s launch.
  • colony hill site is a lot of work to keep it going, Greg needs volunteers, he’s overloaded. Near prison, Colony Farms. Hard to finish off students without this intermediate hill before mountain flights.

Connecticut club has resurrected winch towing. Good to augment their one site.

Golf Course will be acquired by Open Spaces, Greg is looking at doing winch towing. Could we perhaps convert the hill by the restaurant into a training hill?
