Meeting opened at 8:08 with 18 members
Treasury: $1759.47 nothing earmarked so ours to spend.
Mail: a reorder for checks came but we dont need it.
501.3c: WE HAVE IT! Now need to talk about how to use it. Website apparently had a lot to do with the approval, it helps that it looks so professional. Dues will be considered a donation.
USHPA Updates: Only new thing is reinstating the safe pilot awards, but instead of nice pins will have less nice pins but a jacket as well. Problems down in Tennessee Tree Toppers with commercial school nearby landing in same LZ. But USHPA is solvent. The mag wants more hang gliding stories, submissions are rather lopsided right now. Rick Fitz may right up the resurgance of new pilots.
Greg’s Training Hill: he’s started teaching again. Has a few students, a couple are crossovers from paragliding. If anyone wants to knock the rust off, he won’t charge anything, just sign a waiver.
Road Work: Tim has volunteered to spearhead a work party to fill in potholes. We already have gravel, just need to move it around. He’ll bring his utility trailer, need people to show up with shovels and rakes. 10:30 or 11 sunday morning start time, should only take a couple hours. Wayne could drop off his tamper at Greg’s. Some shovels will be dropped off. Even if you don’t have tools, show up with gloves.
Flying Stories:
Tim now has his H3, first flight under his own power he skied out.
Romano had a 4-5 hour flight at cloudbase.
Nick had his first hour-long soaring flight, itching to get back to Ellenville.
Billy had first flight with vario, up to 1900 feet then back down.
Tim is planning on going to the Kitty Hawk Spectacular, plans to demo a Gecko.
Question about paragliding: why are they not active in the club? No clear answer but we would very much like to have them as active members. If they are camping during our club cookout, let’s invite them in. Can also discuss issues below.
A PG pilot has had his rating revoked for 90 days for launching while drunk. Also some problems with PG toplanding when launch was pretty crowded. But club has no authority beyond talking to them about common sense.
Ricky closed out with a mini workshop on thermalling.
Next meeting: Zoom May Wed 26, but an in-person meeting Saturday the 22nd, maybe at Cohen’s bakery.
