Next meeting: August 22
Treasury: $1576.56 All donations used, so money is not allocated to anything as yet. BUT Romano joined 2 minutes before the report, so add $30
(Romano has had 19 mountain launches at Valle de Bravo, plus truck towing with Steve Wendt down in Virginia.)
Old Business: for once Brian was ready. But the rest of you can go look at the February 2020 report.
- Maybe can put current wind video public, history as private? Mike will investigate.
- Can new website chat fill the gap left by the old version of yahoo site? Maybe make some discussions open to all, others open only to club.
Website: invitation to website and forum will go out on Sunday.
Facebook groups: rename the group to HVFF, Jimmy D will be asked to make the changes. He may get advice from Paul.
Membership management: Data entry will be needed for the new website. Brian VH is willing to do procedures for new members or re-upping old memberships. Mike will create a guide.
Club Incorporation: Wayne has done 4 incorporations in the last 20 years; this is by far the hardest. We may be closing in on this one: NYS has 4 nonprofit status, we qualify for 2 of them. Both state and IRS federal hurdles must be jumped – almost done. Ross Wisdom and Bob Boloukis is working with us on this. It will be a 501.3C NYS type B charitable organization with an education component. Needs to be nonprofit for fund raising to purchase launch and landing.
A developer is interested in purchasing the land above launch for a 4-5 lot subdivision. This would get Tony some of the cash he deserves for retirement, giving us time to do fund raising to purchase the launch area. Open Space is still interested in the land, but they weren’t going to pay the money Tony needed based on the estimates they did. But the estimate will go up once it’s subdivided, and Open Spaces would pay the estimated cost if they still want it.
Merchandising: Wayne has made friends with a person who has a business to make merchandise, mugs, shirts, etc. that we could sell on the website. He could handle all logistics; we get the profits. Fred volunteered to spearhead guidance for club merchandise.
PG incidents: Recently had 3 PG go into the trees in one day. Maybe we should start treating them like HG and give them guidance and advice? Once we own the site, how do we regulate? New signage up at launch with website information so people can check membership or join? Discussion about launch windsocks versus flag, which doesn’t show velocity. Maybe try flexible pole with banner that bends to indicate wind?
