Hello Fellow Aviators!
Well last nights Parachute Party was a informative blast for all that attended. Many new faces and many I haven’t seen in quite a while, it was nice catching up with everyone there:) Everyone brought food and beverages so there was plenty to eat but the nights best disk when to “Jimmy D’s Aviators Ribs” Yeh… That hands down was the Pilot’s favorite… It seemed Jimmy couldn’t get them off the BQ fast enough to feed the crowd… Jimmy we’ll need you to post the receipt on the New website “I think it will increase our web hits by 25%”:)
The evening started off with David Hopkins giving us his first hand account of his intrepid journey across the New England landscape from Ellenville to Salsbury Beach NH… Thought this saga is now Ellenville folklore and I must of heard he tell it 12 times by now BUT every time he tells it I learn something new and last night was no exception. He had the crowd listening intently like a classroom of 4th grades listening to a book reading from J.K.Rowling:) Its a must hear for all XC pilots and should be a “Required writing”… I think we should video the next telling of this journey and post it… Thanks again Dave for reliving that legendary day with us!
Greg gave us his talk on everything anyone would need to know about parachutes from the different types to the properly deploy of them…Yes there is a lot of information here and all though I’ve been flying with my trusted ‘BLUE Monster” conical for many years I learned last night I may have to change over to a new PDA “Pull Down Apex” for my next harness…. Thanks Greg for the dispersion of knowledge on this subject, I’m sure everyone in the group walked away with something from this talk:)
Then it was time for me to give a little talk on equipment we may consider carry with us when flying that would aid us in the event of a tree landing… Then onto a talk of rigging equipment and the proper way to set this equipment for a safe belay out of trees:)
This year we combined the Parachute toss and the Tree belay into one event for the pilots which I think worked out very well. Everyone got a to see how difficult it actually is to properly deploy their parachutes and then how challenging it is to properly rig themselves for a safe belay to earth…It was pretty obvious to the group there last night that these are skills you learn and practice…
Thanks to Greg Black for hosting this event last. Dave Hopkins for his talk. and everyone else that came, helped and supported with this Event.
